Daisuke Shima retires

After 32 years in the biz, Daisuke Shima has announced he's retiring from the entertainment industry. :(

Man, I think this pretty much leaves just Takayuki Godai, Ryousuke Sakamoto and Kenta Satou as the only '80s Reds still acting. :(

  1. Gutted! D:

I was hoping he'd make a return for 35th, but if his Super Sentai Send-off is Gao vs. SS then I guess that's better than nothing.

    He will be missed.

(C'mon...they really could've used a better picture of him in that YJ article.)

    1. It kind of makes me upset all over again that they couldn't find a place for him in Gokaiger after the movie fell through. Since Liveman's been shown in a lot of stuff for Superhero Taisen Z, I know a lot of people were hoping/expecting them to get Shima to at least voice Falcon in the movie.

It's just depressing to me that so many performers from the '80s shows are retired from acting. This is the reason I whined a bunch during Gokaiger -- with so many Sentai shows being down to just ONE active actor, I felt like Gokaiger was the best time to get those people. How many more of the '70s or '80s actors might be retired by the next anniversary? But, please, Toei -- focus exclusively on newer people who have just started their careers.

  2. For me, let's just respect his decision to retire. I mean, he's already done a lot. But despite retirement, I hope he will still appear during reunions as well.

  3. Well. He retired and is now into politics. He's now active in the Jimin Party...
He did say he retired from the 'showbizz(geinoukai)'. I wonder if this means he'll stop singing as well?
